The Special Nature Reserve Obedska Bara is the second oldest protected area in the world (the oldest in Europe) and a wetland of international importance (listed as a Ramsar site and IBA and IPA area). Obedska Bara, famous ornithological site, is an oxbow lake surrounded with marsh and forest habitats. Wetlands are among the world’s most threatened ecosystems and this one has been gravely degraded, the most important problem being the overgrowing and disappearance of wet meadows.
Volunteers will be included in the project “Return of the Ibis” of wet meadows revitalization by removing tree branches and clearing other vegetation. This will be the 18th camp we have organized here since 1997; so far because of our activities several bird species have returned and the working site has the richest bird fauna in the reserve. Some work on a medieval fortress as well as on preparation of regatta on Sava River will be done.
